Three Continental Properties Home Office employees have started a quest. Morgan Bartkowiak, Jean Jones and Meghan Porath were chatting about the sedentary nature of our desk jobs. In a bit of a whim, we decided to purchase an under-the-desk cycle and spend some time each day pedaling. We thought that, even if it is not heavy exercise, some movement would be good for our health. Now don't get the wrong idea - it is not that we are chained to our desks! We have a wonderful work environment, but there are days when it seems we get into a project, or attack our to-do list with vigor, and at the end of the day we realize we did not budge from our chairs much at all.
No sooner did we receive the bike that our imaginations started working. Rather than just pedaling mindlessly, why not keep track of our miles? As long as we're tracking our miles, why not "go" somewhere - give ourselves a distance goal? Considering that the three of us work closely with our Springs Apartments communities throughout the United States, why not "visit" them? We created a travel schedule that takes us to all of our 35 apartment communities in a loop. Starting and ending at our Home Office in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, we will eventually travel at least 5,904 miles.
Seeing that daunting number of miles gave us another idea. Why not see if we can share our travels, and maybe raise money for a cause? We have all been moved speaking to veterans who have been on Honor Flights. Milwaukee has a very active organization, so we chose to support Stars and Stripes Honor Flight. We invite our co-workers, or any person so inclined to sponsor our travels by pledging whatever amount they wish per mile. You may pledge as little as one cent and you may pledge the entire trip or a leg of the trip. We will post every time we hit a new location, and maybe a few times along the way.
