"I'm going back to dignity and grace. I'm going back to Charleston..."Rhett Butler

We really feel like we've made progress! We're at the Atlantic coast in Charleston, South Carolina! There is so much to do in this city that we had to stop and spend a while. Besides, we wanted to savor the accomplishment of biking all the way from Wisconsin.

I wore my pedaling partners down talking about Rhett Butler being from Charleston, and how fun it would be to go on a Gone with the Wind Tour. It was so amazing seeing the history while also celebrating one of my favorite books (yes, the book, not the movie, although in my head Rhett and Scarlett look like Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh). We finished the tour energized by Scarlett's spunk: "As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me." That's what we have to remember when the road ahead seems interminably long.

I begged and pleaded to hit the golf course because there are so many great ones in this town, but Morgan persuaded Meghan that we just had to hit the beach. Off we went to Kiawah Island. It was so beautiful, and actually quite wonderful to just chill there for a while. The weather was perfect.

After the beach we headed over to Springs at Essex Farms. This community certainly goes down as one of Continental's most beautiful. The team welcomed us warmly, even taking donations from residents to support our ride and Honor Flight Lowcountry. Jan Rayburn our Property Manager, took us to a favorite local restaurant, Pearlz Oyster Bar. It was delicious!

We're glad we had a chance to rest up a bit in Charleston because we're looking at the second longest leg of our journey - 597 miles to Springs at Estero, in Southwest Florida.

WHERE ARE WE NOW?
