In February, Continental Properties celebrated Black History Month with a creative approach aimed to honor the rich history and culture of the Black community. Through a series of initiatives ranging from fun and interactive to thought-provoking and empowering, Continental is committed to promoting equity and inclusion in all areas of the company. In this blog, we will explore these initiatives and highlight the ways in which we celebrate the Black community during this important month and beyond.
As part of the celebration, Continental's You Belong Here Committee hosted a month-long challenge with the creation of Black History Month Bingo Cards. The cards included squares such as supporting a black-owned retailer and learning about this month's team member spotlights. For every box checked off, team members earned an entry into a drawing to win You Belong Here-branded swag.
Team members had several resources to aid their celebrations, including a Black-Owned Business Guide for every city Continental operates in, a curated list of iconic movies with Black actors and actresses, and a Spotify playlist featuring our favorite Black musicians. “I’m very passionate about music, so I had a lot of fun being able to contribute to the Black History Month playlist,” said Stephon Lewis, Multifamily Training Coordinator. “Music has not only been a part of many memories in my life, but it has also provided a form of encouragement and strength throughout key moments in Black history. It isn’t just entertainment; music allows us to take an in-depth view of the Black perspective through the lens of different artists and genres.” Check out the Spotify playlist here.
In addition, the You Belong Here Committee provided a set of mental health resources from our partners at Ginger and Headspace, featuring narratives that celebrate the rich and complex history of the Black community. We also honored 21st-century influential Black Americans who are shaping the world we live in.
Thank you to our You Belong Here Committee and our Black History Month Planning Group for curating this memorable and educational experience. We look forward to continuing our efforts to uplift and celebrate the Black community not only during the month of February but throughout the entire year.
